Rome, Italy

These photographs were made during a trip to Rome in early 2020, shortly before the pandemic brought international travel to a halt.

I spent most of the visit walking, moving between familiar monuments and unplanned streets while photographing architecture and everyday city life as I found it.

Rome felt intensely romantic. Dramatic sunsets and warm nighttime light became recurring parts of the series, shaping how I photographed both its historic landmarks and quieter corners. We returned to the United States just as travel restrictions were beginning, and the images now feel connected to a city and moment on the verge of change.
