Nexus 6

This collection of portraits was made in collaboration with a friend and talented makeup Artist, Elizabeth Rist, for The Powder Group's On Makeup Magazine.

Loosely inspired by the Nexus-6 replicants in Blade Runner, the series follows a group of bioengineered beings from their immaculate beginning to their gradual collapse.
Elizabeth and I used controlled lighting, makeup and simple posing to build the visual narrative. The portraits begin with loose, beautiful gestures and a sense of possibility. As the series progresses, their movement narrows and the poses become increasingly rigid. By the final images, the figures are simply standing, still and somber, as their makeup runs like synthetic fluid, suggesting the brief, bright existence and beautiful death of an installed consciousness.
